Description

An illustrated adaptation of Charles Dickens’s Victorian classic – at an easy-to-read level for readers of all ages!

Who can help a mean old man to love Christmas? How about a ghost? (…or three!)

Scrooge’s heart is colder than snow, he’s richer than half the banks in England and meaner than, well, everyone. But when three seriously spooky ghosts turn up to take him on an adventure through time, he soon learns that being cold isn’t cool. Can he change his ways before it’s too late?

About The Charles Dickens Children’s Collection:

Bah humbug! Who says the classics are just for adults? Join Ebenezer Scrooge on his ghostly Christmas adventure, or follow orphaned Oliver Twist from rags to riches in some of literature’s most famous tales from the foggy streets of Victorian London.

Publisher Review

I've always loved to read and reread multiple iterations of A Christmas Carol ever since I was a kid. This illustrated version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol makes it easy for children to read or to be read by parents for them. The illustrations beautifully capture the essence of the original story. This was a great, condensed version of the classic suitable for early readers. I really liked the black and white illustrations mixed with the text. -- Ankit Dhirasaria * NetGalley * This is a condensed version of the Dickens' classic with some fun and silly illustrations. It's suitable for the young reader and I think a lot of them would enjoy reading this edition.Kristin Jorgensen -- Kristin Jorgensen * NetGalley * Who's ready for a Christmas story? Are you expecting cheers, snow-fights, cakes, tarts, and Christmas trees? Well, none of those, Dickens is here to introduce you to an old man who is as cold and hard as your imagination could take you. And he, my friends, is not on holiday for Christmas! Is this man working on a Christmas Eve? Yes, this man is up for no celebration. Do you think that the ice around this man can be broken on Christmas? Think twice before answering, because this man is the most heartless fellow you might have come across. -- Nidhi Sinha * Biblio's Bookworm Blog * What a wonderful adaptation! The language is easy, whilst being faithful to the original story and it's famous phrases and the illustrations are in a fun style that children will enjoy - it reminded me of watching cartoons! -- Jessica Chapman * NetGalley * This was a great, condensed version of the classic suitable for early readers! I liked the black and white illustrations mixed with the text. -- Kristy Morales * NetGalley * An excellent adaptation of this Charles Dickens classic, not too scary but just scary enough! My granddaughter will thoroughly enjoy this and it will definitely be in her Christmas stocking. -- Terri Harwood * NetGalley * This is my husbands favourite Christmas story and he loved reading it to my daughter. The classic A Christmas Carol story special for kids. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is my favourite book of all times and I love every edition of this story. This book I think is well summarised for the kids with beautiful illustrations and it doesn't let anything essential behind. -- Alexa Cataline * NetGalley * Philip Gooden has done a miraculous job making this classic story into a light and easy read with lots of great pictures. This felt so nostalgic and awesome, dipping back into my childhood of watching the film adaptation of this tale over and over. I felt the Christmas spirit and I felt holly and jolly reading about good ol' Scrooge all over again! What a tale! -- Briar Ramses * NetGalley * A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a classic for a reason. Not only a meaningful read for children, but a meaningful one for adults. This book tells the classic story of the grumpy Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by three ghosts in order to find happiness and find the joy of Christmas. This adaptation by Philip Gooden is a great edition to give children for the holiday season. Highly recommend this book for Christmastime! -- Jane Massman * NetGalley * This adapted story has modern illustrations and is a great way to introduce children to some of our greatest authors of all time. I found myself smiling throughout as I was reading this condensed book. Scrooge is colder than snow, he's richer than half the banks in England and meaner than, well everyone. But I wasn't sure how my just turned six year old little book worm would feel about so many spooky ghosts and all of them arriving on Christmas eve.. Like anything with children related and their learning - they are all unique. The answer is I think when she's 7/8 years old and has got through all her Roald Dahl books by herself and knows some people aren't always nice, then I would introduce it. I loved, loved, loved this book and the idea of it and of all the other titles about to be released. I will definitely buy it for her when it's published and maybe we will read it together. So I can be on hand to explain about ghostly things and questions. The book is a gem and I will be looking out for all of Philip Gooden and the other Easy Classic publications. I can't recommend it enough as a great way to introduce classics to children and I will be on the lookout to purchase some of the other books that will hit our books shops in October. Five big stars! -- Angela Groom * NetGalley *
